Stella McCartney for H&M

Girls, you may have heard that Stella McCartney was putting out a line of clothes for H&M. Today was opening day. They opened the stores at 10 AM and by the time I got there at 11:45 they were sold out at both of the stores on 34th St. There was a sign in the window that said "Big success! Refillment coming soon." And inside there was a mob standing around, I'm not sure what they were hoping was going to happen. If you try for the "refillment," look for the clothes on thick wooden hangers, those are the McCartney ones. I did find a long black frock coat in size 10 near the mirror, but it was $199 and I don't need to spend that just for something I don't even want. I think people must have grabbed everything to sell on eBay. I'm also pretty sure that the clothing companies around here have taken them back to their laboratories to copy them. If you can't get your hands on any of the clothes you can at least see them here. I'm not sure I could get away with any of those clothes anyway. A satin romper with over-the-knee stretch boots? I just don't know where I would wear that.

shopping report

Hey Kids! Act fast! Master Cutting Table Co., Inc is going out of business! All cutting tables, tools, dies and store fixtures must go! And a special private label sale on wooden hat forms! I'm sad to see this place go. I had never noticed it before the other day when I was going around with my camera trying to shoot my "cats in store windows" series. Sure enough, once I had the camera with me, there were no cats in any store windows. But this here is one of the most arcane storefronts I've seen in the garment district. I'm not even sure what it is that it sells. Somehow I found that I was too scared to go in. But I had to take a picture, I couldn't get over the full-size b/w lingerie model fronted by photos of various groups, and sharing a wall with signed photos of the Kennedys. Note too the mannequin in the window. I mourn the passing of it all.
